Cambridge Global Challenges initiative

THE BACKGROUND – Cambridge Global Challenges (CGC) was founded by Cambridge researchers and by the Centre for Global Equality – an implementation partner based in Cambridge. CGC is the Strategic Research Initiative (SRI) of the University of Cambridge that aims to enhance the contribution of its research towards addressing the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) by 2030, with a particular focus on the poorest half of the world’s population. They recognize that ending poverty must go hand-in-hand with strategies that build economic growth and address a range of social needs including education, health, social protection, and job opportunities, while tackling climate change and environmental protection.

Logo design services for University of Cambridge

THE OBJECTIVE – CGC wanted a distinctive and adaptable logo system that would work across a wide range of media and be instantly recognisable as relating to the SDGs and initially approached CATALYST for their logo design services. The brief stated that the logo design solution should be easy to use and have clear usage guidelines.

CATALYST chose to pick up on the colour range of the individual goals and created an attractive and dynamic icon alongside a typographic element that would happily sit with the University of Cambridge identity.

An adaptable logo design solution

THE OUTCOME – The eye-catching logo conveys the multicolour approach of the different goals in an exciting and dynamic manner. Crisp, clear typography gives the logo an impression of clarity and openness.

Whilst the website was constructed in-house, CATALYST were asked to provide style designs for it alongside designing and producing brochures, badges and banners for the World Social Science Forum to help promote the initiative.

Although the logo was designed to work across all types of coloured background a high white background was chosen predominantly for most of the marketing materials as it imbues a further open and positive feel.
