German microsite for Spirotech-SRD

German ‘micro-site’ helps generate sales leads

A better way to communicate with international clients

We’re very fortunate in that English is the foremost business language in many parts of the world. But if you are aware from your website stats that a particular country is dominant in the searches then creating a microsite in a particular language can be beneficial in securing solid enquiries. Catalyst has recently produced a German version microsite using the information from a client’s main website and this is proving to be a most useful additional marketing tool.

Google announces mobile-friendly websites to rank better in mobile search

Google has announced that on April 21, 2015, Google’s mobile ranking factors will not only label your site as mobile-friendly, but will also use that to determine if your site should rank higher in the search results. This algorithmic change will have a “significant impact” in the mobile search results.

Mobile-friendly website design and production

Key facts about mobile-friendly websites

  • Just over 67% of people search for products and services on their mobile phones using Google’s search engine.
  • 94% of people snub their desktop computer at home or work to use their mobile to search for local information!
  • Potential customers are 60% more likely to abandon searches on non-mobile sites
  • 73% of potential customers prefer an easy to use, fully functional mobile website with no pinching or zooming

It’s a fact that you can simply grow your website views by going mobile. Unless your website is responsive it’s highly likely you’re only reaching a tiny percentage of your potential customers. So don’t lose your website ranking on Google.

How to ensure you get seen by search engines

Search engines directly affect the number of hits you get, and the higher up the ranking you get, the more hits your site will get. There are millions of webpages out there all vying for hits (and your customers). Getting ranked well organically by search engines (that is without paying Google or any other search engine) is a difficult process, especially if you are in a competitive industry sector.

So how do you ensure that your page will be ranked well?

There is no ‘dark art’. It’s about creating content that is interesting, useful and original and ensuring that readers can find it. AND that once they do find it, that it is attractive, easy to read and compelling enough to hold their attention and make them want to share it with like minded people! Pages that are interesting to read, have rich content and hold the viewers attention appeal to search engines – as do pages that have a lot of links directed at them.

Our advice to ensure that search engines find your page is to target the more niche keywords related to your service or product and provide useful, interesting information around those keywords – rather than targeting broader search terms where competition is rife. Once the keywords have been identified you need to create ‘landing pages’ specifically aimed at those keywords. Trying to target a wide range of keywords on one page is a lot less effective then a page focussed on a handful of related keywords or phrases.

Ensuring that the identified keywords are included in the title tag, the URL, image ‘alt’ tag, in the headers and throughout the text, will help boost the pages’ relevance and therefore boost how search engines will rank your pages. Once you’ve created a page with compelling, useful and informative information people may well link to that page and share the information with others, boosting the popularity of that page and so enticing search engines to rank your page highly and as soon as the page is published  you can reach out to your network and encourage them to link to your page from any relevant pages they might have.

The 5 key tips for getting search engines to rank your page well.

  1. Research the terms that your customers use to search for your product or service and understand how they search.
  2. Don’t get too bogged down in creating a site just for Google. Create it for your users/readers. A well written, informative and useful page will hold viewers attention, and will naturally improve your rankings.
  3. The content of the page should read naturally. Don’t just stuff it full of keywords – write the content how you would normally speak it.
  4. Ensure that the content of your page is accessible to search engines – if the words are not readable in the generated code it won’t get indexed.
  5. Add value – if you create compelling content that people find of use they will link to your pages or share them with others. Search engines like popular pages and will rank them well.
